My December 2008

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Busy.

Now, I’m blogging in Bedok Commnunity Library. For reasons unsure, I can’t access Internet at home. I suspect it’s because of the cable breaks that cut the Internet in MidEast, and South Asia. Upon a little “googling”, I discovered that in 2006, there’s a similar situation too.

Anyway, this post tpday is to give an update on what I’ve been busy with in December so far.

I ended my first semester’s exams, and tomorrow, I’ll know my results! Eeeekss!

I had a camp from 15th to 17th. It’s called Cyberia Camp. My CCA is called CBLC, i.e. computer based learning center. In the camp, we held workshops for adobe softwares, this time, namely, Flash, Photoshop, and Flex… The workshops’s on CS3, as CS4 is too new, i.e. launched in 15th October 2008. Apart from that, what I really enjoyed in the camp is the time spent with my group. I’ll post a separate blog post for the camp later!

I cut my hair, using the voucher given during the camp. It’s by 2-Way Holistic, a hair salon inside National University (NUS), near Yusof Ishak House (YIH). I paid $15. The service I received was hair wash and hair cut. Not bad a service for the price. I like my hair now too.

This December, I also bought a keyboard. It’s KORG X50, bought from City Music, located at Peace Center. I walked from Douby Ghaut. They are having their year end sale, so I got some discounts from there. Jason Ang, a friend, recommended me.

I also bought speakers, i.e. Altec Lansing VS2521.

In addition, I got hold of Adobe CS3 Web Premium, and Logic Studio! Woohoo!!!!!!!

Whereas for my ministry, in PSPT communications, I started gathering my Core Team members and we’re busy with our productions for 27th Dec 2008 and 3rd Jan 2009. 27th Dec 2008 will be our very first PolyDINS service, when University congregation have their own service else where. We’ve grown! PSPT is my new Care Group, i.e. small group in church. More things are coming up, and I’m so excited for PSPT Communications, i.e. my team, to be part of all these milestone moments.

First Meeting - Gordon, HanYew, Sally, Aileen

Friday, December 5th, 2008

I don’t know what to title today’s highlight. Ha…

Today, I had my very first meeting with Gordon, Sally, and Aileen. Now that I am in PSPT, one of my very first projects is to come up with an Opening Video for PolyDINS’ very first service. We met at CenterPoint’s MacDonald. I can’t divulge too many information about the Video production because of confidentiality, but I am excited for this event.

Oh God, three more weeks! Three more weeks!

Oh God, help me lay the foundation of this Communications/ Productions Team of PolyDINS. Guide me. Use people around me to give me sound advice, and may my puny little brain be of great big use for Your glory! Use me, and use us to TOUCH the HEARTS of people! Send people. Rise up, oh talented peoples, and come and be of service to the King of kings, in this House of God! Church.

More to come.

If you happened to see this blog post. Do me a favor? Do you know how to use MacroMedia? Do you know how to use Flash, After Effects, DreamWeaver, PhotoShop, Illustrator? If you know any of these, and have good reference for me to learn from, do let me know! Thanks!

Forfeiting My First Possible Genting Trip

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Had music practice this evening. I have guitarist duty this Saturday.

Yesterday, Yu Hui asked me to join her friend and her to go on a Genting trip. I have never been to Genting before, so the offer was alluring to me. I wanted to go.

After I exchanged sms-es with Mei Hwa, my direct leader in church from yesterday till today, I finally decided that I’ll give up the Genting trip.

Why? It is because of the timing issue. It’s too last minute to inform my band to get another guitarist, since it’s in the roster for this entire Quarter. I can try and get someone else to take over me, but it’ll disrupt the person’s rest. I can skip the Monday practice (informing the lead worshipper and even gaining his/her approval) and only go for the Thursday practice, but it’ll jeopardize the Monday’s music arrangement. There are other factors which I took into consideration, but I think it’s too detailed to be mentioned here.

I really wanted to go for the Genting and gain the experience. Maybe some of you thinks that I am a ’slave’ to my church. Truth is, I think I am free, because I made the choice. I don’t think my leaders will force me to stay for Monday practice. Mei Hwa even told me that she wanted me to go for the Genting. When I told her I’m on duty next saturday, and asked for her opinion, she threw the question back at me. She gave me space to think on my own first. I was dull, and probed her to state her view anyway.

This is not my regret. This is my stand, and my expression of love for my God and my loyalty to my worship team. This is my expression of me choosing Him. This is an example of my display in trusting God has the best for me.

Taught Bryan And Wei En Guitar

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Today, after my school, I picked up Bryan and Wei En to go to my house for a guitar crash course. Bryan requested from me about two weeks ago. I figured, “Why not?” Bryan and Wei En are from the JC group of my church.

Just now, the crash course just ended. Basically, I shared a bit of my knowledge on major scale, triad theory, E-based barre chords and A-based barre chords, and inversions. We spent about two hours together. Crash course, indeed.

Here’s a document I prepared for them (click to view).

This coming December, I hope I can do a better job in teaching, if I get the chance to teach again.
