SBS Bus Arrival SMS Service

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

I received an email by NUS OSA, and it caught m attention. Here’s what it says….

Announcing a new initiative by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) that will enhance your public travelling experience.

The Bus Arrival Information on SMS service launched by LTA on 17 October 2008.

Currently only available at selected bus-stops along the academic belt (from Clementi MRT Station to Bukit Batok MRT Station via Ngee Ann Polytechnic as well as from Buona Vista MRT Station up to Nanyang Technological University), this service allows students to check SBS Transit and SMRT bus arrival times on a real-time basis.

You can now plan your public transport times more efficiently and not waste precious time waiting at the bus-stops!

This service is free during the 6 month trial period from October 08 to March 09. Check out http://www.publictransport.sg/public/ptp/en/Mobile.html for the instructions!

Along with this new initiative, LTA has also launched a one-stop online portal – http://www.publictransport.sg which provides round-the-clock integrated public transport information.

For more information on these services, visit www.publictransport.sg

Any NUS student who goes to school by bus from the bus stop around Bouna Vista and Clementi MRT would know that we often find ourselves having to “squeeze” up the bus, especially during the peak hours. I know, because I always encounter the situation that I have to wait for the next bus, since I can’t board the first bus. It is either because I didn’t managed to “squeeze” in, or it’s already packed and the bus didn’t stop for us, by-passing our stop. Grrrr…

Are you an NUS student? Do you encounter situations like me? Will you use this service? I will, at least during the six month period, when it is free!

Coffee With Verene

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

2 days ago, I caught up with an old friend of mine. Her name is Verene. I knew her since Primary School days (Yes, our friendship goes waaaaaaaaaaaay back into the eons). We went for lunch at Siglap Road’s Killiney Kopitiam, then proceeded to the nearby Coffee Club. Verene made me took a number of photos with her (I didn’t know she likes to take take photos so much!). Then, she made me do a video with her ( for the sake of fun and memory). The video is on an introduction of a book I am currently reading: The Five Love Languages, by Dr. Gary Chapman. I had an enjoyable time today. Yay. =)

Verene just started blogging in the last week. Do show her some support, alright? Her blog is at www.redrosesgoldthorns.blogspot.com. Here’s what she told me her blog is about…

Not a journal-like blog you see around. It discusses some issues close to the readers’ hearts. Basically, I hope this blog will give some entertainment as well as inspirational value to readers. Probably, in time to come, I hope it’ll accompany readers through their days by giving them a place to find hope and laughter. ( I will not forget to insert gossips about my daily life as well =p)

Okay, I know I look quite “toot”, i.e. nerdy-looking, in this video… BUT, pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaassssssssssseeeeeeeeeeee pardon me…
哭笑不得。。。

NUS Starting, Less Blogging?

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

I am now an official undergraduate of NUS! Next week, it’s my orientation week, also known as O Week. I will be going to school almost every week. Then, in the following week, my lectures and tutorials will start to kick in. I am so excited to go back to school life! That is, of course, apart from my anxiety to come from the workload from studies.

What does that mean?

It means I will become busier! I have to adjust my life back to school life. The schedule of my lectures and tutorials will fill up a portion of my Calendar. So, I need more time to revamp my weekly schedule in this coming 2 weeks.

Therefore, I may be blogging lesser. I was blogging in this blog practically every day since June 2008 till now. (If you saw a missing day, it’s probably a private post, meant only for me to see.)

Then again, if I have something to share about my life, those that I really really think it’s really really worth sharing or be kept as part of my memory, I will surely blog them down!

Watch out for the videos and pictures and even mp3 podcasts in time to come!

Thanks to myi4u who gave me the suggestion on joining PayPerPost on my blog post on why I blog, I decided to register with PayPerPost.

Today, I checked my Mail and I received an email from PayPerPost (PPP). My blog is approved! Yes, it is this blog that is approved. Previously, I submitted this very same blog, but it got rejected, and the reason PPP rejected me was:

we cannot approve your blog because your blog doesn’t have a Chronological Archive. Blogs must have a chronological archive to verify age. Categorical archives will not be accepted.

I was baffled. I mean, if you go to my archive page at http://www.lowhanyew.com/archives, isn’t it showing my archives in chronological order? Why, then, am I not qualified? I decided to experiment changing the details I entered in earlier on my archive URL. Since they stated that I can use my very first blog post entry’s URL, too, I used it, instead of the archive page URL. It worked!

I’m still trying out this PayPerPost service, and I am still learning. So, if you are reading this post, and you have good suggestions on how to make the most of PayPerPost, leave your comment or email me!

Are you a user of PayPerPost too? How has payPerPost benefitted you? Have you been rejected by PayPerPost before; why?
